DARK FIBER SOLUTIONS AWARDED CONTRACT TO PROVIDE WIRELESS VIDEO CONFERENCING SERVICES TO CABRILLO NATIONAL MONUMENT
Dark Fiber Solutions has recently been awarded a contract to provide wireless video conferencing services to the Cabrillo National Monument in California. The Wireless Video Conferencing Service provided by DFS will enable hundreds of south-central and southeast Nebraska students from over seventy schools to “visit” the Cabrillo National Monument, without leaving their classrooms, through the use of technology. A mobile video conferencing cart at the Cabrillo National Monument will be used by the Cabrillo National Monument staff to conduct programs and provide educational opportunities for students through a “virtual fieldtrip” by utilizing the wireless network. The Cabrillo staff will have the ability to move their mobile cart to numerous locations within the Cabrillo National Monument Park to give “virtual tours” of the Cabrillo National Monument.
A “virtual fieldtrip” to Cabrillo National Park would provide students with an opportunity for tours of the San Diego harbor and skyline, the Old Point Loma Lighthouse, and statute and museum commemorating Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo and his exploration of the coast of California. An exhibit in a former army building tells the story of the coast artillery on Point Loma. In the winter, migrating gray whales can be seen off the coast.
Students will not only be able to “view” the Cabrillo National Monument live, but will also be able to ask questions of the Cabrillo staff through the interactive video conferences.
