Technology Firm to Honor Region 14
WOODBURY-BETHLEHEM - Dark Fiber Solutions, a technology provider for Region 14 Schools, has chosen Region 14 as its School District of the Year.
This award is being presented for the advancements that have been made at Region 14, as well as for the district's commitment to using technology in the classroom.
"At Dark Fiber Solutions, we have always been impressed by Region 14 for their forward and out of the box thinking when it comes to technology." said Jack Dixon, president of Dark Fiber Solutions.
"The staff at the Region 14 schools have always been terrific to work with and have continually put the educational needs of the students and staff first. Their level of commitment to the student has always been impressive."
With every facility connected via a fiber optics based wide-area-network, the schools of Region 14 have one of the most advanced and reliable systems in the state.
In addition to the schools being wired together by fiber optics, the schools themselves have fiber optic cable within, allowing for a secure, fast and dependable network.
Additionally, each school is set up with a distance-learning cart. These carts allow Region 14 students access to other schools across the country, as well as to a large number of national parks, NASA and other facilities on the network.
Region 14 also uses a 26-camera surveillance system that allows the district to have 24-hour web-based access to all of the schools. This video system also records and stores information, so that if an event were to take place, the district is able to go back and look at the archived video.
Surveillance system cameras are strategically located throughout the district in parking lots, lunchrooms, playgrounds and high traffic areas.
Recently, the region has begun to use Voice over IP for telephone use within the district. VoIP allows for enhanced access to the phone system for the faculty and staff throughout Region 14.
Dark Fiber Solutions will present this award at the Monday, May 7th school board meeting.
